Metal Line is a hyper-specialized supply chain partner to the mining, mineral- and metal commodity industries, providing warehousing, containerization, packaging, trucking, freight forwarding, clearing, bulk and breakbulk cargo handling, and ocean freight solutions.
Their institutional proficiency spans various metal commodity categories such as their specialized copper cathode and copper anode handling facilities, prime chrome export locations, coal, iron ore, manganese, cobalt and base metal handling operations.
The Battery Metals market consists of Manganese, Lithium, Nickel, Cobalt, and many other high-value commodities. These serve to be the primary industry at the nucleus of Metal Line’s operations.

Infrastructural Capabilties
The organization has recently developed its infrastructural capabilities to become better able to handle high volumes of base metals including copper, zinc, nickel, tin, and aluminium as the world gears for increased production and an anticipated commodity super cycle in these markets.
Metal Line serves as a custodian of high value commodities and remains positioned as a mission-critical export partner to international metals traders, with privately owned and operated infrastructural assets nationwide and direct access to privatized port operations in Durban, Gqeberha and Maputo. Through Metal Line’s expansion strategy, operations through Walvis Bay is soon to follow.

Entities under the Metal Line Brand
Metal Line Holdings and associated companies Metal Line Africa, Metal Line Logistics, Metal Line Zimbabwe and Metal Line Mozambique all serve as a commercial ecosystem in the SADC region. The organization is well-capitalized and privately operated.

Warehouse security and surveillance of stored commodities
Cargo integrity and safety have always been central concerns for exporters. Metal Line has answered with an AI-backed security control room with facial recognition and early-on detection software. These systems not only deter theft and tampering but also reinforce the company’s reputation for delivering a safe, controlled environment for global commodity flows. The organization’s facilities are protected by heavily armed security guards, and manned on a 24/7 basis.

- Durban Harbour Operations (Bulk Connections and Maydon Wharf): Covering more than 65,000 sqm combined, these facilities link directly to quayside storage and offer bonded warehousing, stevedoring, and customs clearing, serving as Metal Line’s frontline in export logistics
- Cato Ridge, KwaZulu-Natal: A compact but specialized 9,000 sqm facility with 20,000 MT capacity, strategically located to relieve port congestion while providing flexible warehousing and container handling
- Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal: Supporting chrome and bulk cargo exports with shipping agency partnerships, customs clearing, and stevedoring
- Gqeberha, Eastern Cape: A 17,000 sqm facility with 90,000 MT holding capacity and throughput exceeding 700,000 MT annually, strengthening Metal Line’s presence on South Africa’s southern seaboard
- Maputo, Mozambique: A 20,000 sqm facility with capacity for 57,500 MT and throughput of over 500,000 MT per year, integrating customs clearing, stevedoring, and quayside storage to connect Southern African exporters directly with global shipping lanes
Metal Line Africa’s History
Metal Line Projects was established in 2016.
Metal Line Group was established in 2017 during the split of the Maputo and Durban corridors.
In 2018 the organization had already established a presence in Maydon Wharf, Durban, and built the Krugersdorp hub.
In 2020, Metal Line opened a Northern Cape Division and expanded into the iron ore industry.
In 2021, the organization acquired infrastructural assets in Gqeberha and Cato Ridge, thus attracting an influx of Manganese and Ferrochrome clients.
In 2022, Metal Line acquired an 80,000m2 facility in Durban to support bulk and breakbulk cargo imports and exports. This facility serves to be a bonded and free-store warehouse used by the foremost leaders in the trade.
In 2023, Metal Line established the Richards Bay ground team to handle the export of bulk chrome.
In 2024, Metal Line launched a warehouse in Gqeberha and opened an SOS Bond Store in Durban.
In 2025, Metal Line increased its footprint in Maputo and continues to expand its base metals handling facility in Krugersdorp.

Membership and Accreditation
Metal Line holds membership with leading industry bodies, signalling compliance, dedication, and integration into global standards. These include:
- International Chromium Development Association
- Institute of Directors South Africa
- ISO 9000 Certification

Durban Port, Flagship Maritime Hub
Metal Line operates extensively within Durban Harbour, Africa’s busiest general cargo port. Durban handles over 80 million tonnes of cargo annually, and Metal Line maintains a significant share of bulk handling here, particularly for copper cathode, ferrochrome, manganese, and soft commodities. The organization’s facilities at Bulk Connections and Maydon Wharf provide:
- Bonded warehousing for exports and imports
- Quayside storage for direct ship loading
- Stevedoring and shipping agency services
- Customs clearing and freight forwarding integrated into a single service chain
- A model that reduces delays and optimizes cargo readiness for international loading windows.
Metal Line’s Patents
Metalline holds two patented systems that set it apart from traditional commodity logistics operators:
- BOXORE, which is a specialized system for ore handling and transport. It is designed to improve efficiency in moving bulk ores, likely through better containment and modularity.
- SOLVIDT Freight System (SFS), an engineered logistics method focused on streamlining cargo flows. It helps eliminate congestion, maintain cleaner handling standards, and improve reliability compared with conventional methods. This technology is patented as part of Metalline’s effort to reduce dependency on older, inefficient transport models
Tipper Transport vs Metal Line System
Metalline’s patented transportation systems formalize its efficiency-first, safer logistics methods. Its shift from tippers to tautliners means faster turnaround, less cargo loss, and more reliable export flows, a key reason the company has been able to scale across Durban, Krugersdorp, Maputo, and beyond. Here’s the breakdown.
> Tippers (Traditional Method)
> Tippers operate by tipping cargo from the back or side, which:
- Causes congestion at unloading points.
- Increases risk of theft and contamination.
- Leads to inconsistent cargo flow.
- Often comes with volatile pricing, tied to limited capacity.
> Tautliners (Metalline’s Model)
> Curtain-sided trucks (flatbeds with flexible, sliding covers). Allow cargo to be loaded/unloaded more quickly and safely. The benefits of this method include:
- Smooth cargo flow without the bottlenecks of tippers.
- Cleaner handling and reduced contamination.
- Lower theft risk (cargo is enclosed and harder to access in transit).
- Competitive, stable pricing through standardized operations.
- More flexibility for both bulk and containerized goods
